A server is what we used to call a minicomputer, a computer bigger than a desktop but not as big as a mainframe. You use them for hosting websites, not for home use. They have features to let them pump more transactions than a desktop. They also have features to make them more reliable. Sun, IBM, Unisys and HP are well-known server manufacturers.
Microsoft outlook
Microsoft bundles a pair of email programs Outlook and Outlook Express with their Windows OSes. Outlook Express is smaller and faster, but has fewer features.
Outlook Express is capable of forwarding messages without wrapping them in clumsy enclosures. Both programs are highly susceptible to viruses and worms that target them and their address lists.

Web Server
I bought this server to learn how to administrate a linux box (it's REDHAT, for now), and it has done it's job admirably. Currently it's running apache, PHP, and MYSQL, along with a few user applications. I've used it as an appleshare server (to share files and MP3s with my girlfriend) as well as a nightly sitescooper to feed my Palm reading addiction.

Often referred to as simply "mail server", an email server is a computer within your network that works as your virtual post office. A mail server usually consists of a storage area where where e-mail is stored for local users, a set of user definable rules which determine how the mail server should react to the destination of a specific message, a database of user accounts that the mail server recognizes and will deal with locally, and communications modules which are the components that actually handle the transfer of messages to and from other mail servers and email clients.
